VANDERMARK, NILSSEN-LOVE / BUTCHER, MUELLER, VAN DER SCHYFF
MacArthur award winning composer and improviser Ken Vandermark comes to town with percussionist Paal Nilssen-Love, one of the most exciting younger improvisers playing today. Vandermark and Nilssen-Love have been playing together since 2000 and have recently released a CD titled "Seven". They also play together in the Peter Brotzmann Chicago Tentet, Fire Room (with Lasse Marhaug), FME (with Nate McBride), Lean Left, 4 Corners, Powerhouse Sound, School Days, and Territory Band. Vandermark also plays and composes for his acclaimed Vandermark 5 and Nilssen-Love also plays in Atomic, the Frode Gjerstad Trio and the Scorch Trio.
England's John Butcher is a renowned saxophonist who, along with Evan Parker, has revolutionized saxophone extended technique in improvised music. He has working groups with Nilssen-Love, Gino Robair, Paul Lovens and Gerry Hemmingway. Torsten Muller is a five string bassist based in Vancouver who has played with Evan Parker, John Zorn, Arto Lindsay, Alexander Schlippenbach, Paul Lovens, Charles Gayle, Paul Rutherford, Peter van Bergen and Ken Vandermark. Vancouver based drummer, Dylan Van Der Schyff has played with Myra Melford, Michael Moore, John Butcher, Evan Parker, Vinny Golia and Ken Vandermark. The Butcher/Muller/Van Der Schyff trio first played together at the Vancouver Jazz Festival in 2000 and have a CD out called "Points, Snags and Windings."
