Galaxy Research plays cosmic jazz, psychedelic post punk, prog rock influenced by the history of avant garde music. Led by the melodic tenor saxophone of Caroline Chaparro, and supported by the minor key riffs of guitarist Dewey Mahood (Plankton Wat, Eternal Tapestry, Thrill Jockey Records), and the powerful multi dimensional drumming of TJ Thompson (Prejunta, Electro Kraken). The band works with sounds ranging from 70’s Miles, Alice Coltrane, and Sun Ra, to the experimental rock noise of This Heat, Sonic Youth, and Unwound. The band formed fall of 2015, and have been gigging non stop since. Their debut album was just recorded with engineer Mike Erwin, and will be released later this summer.

John Savage, Mike Gamble, Noah Jarrett, and Conor Elmes all met in Brooklyn while playing in the Brooklyn Qawwali Party, a group of NYC jazz musicians dedicated to playing the music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. For this concert the 4tet will re-unite to create a new sonic world of it’s own., exploring small melodic fragments, improvisation, and quite possibly a melody or two of Nusrat’s.
